Food Assistance Program Information by State
*due to Covid-19, some state offices are no longer doing in person eligibility interviews or receiving printed out applications. However, most states are waiving the employment clause due to high levels of unemployment. Check with your local DHR office to see how they are currently processing applications.
The Basics:
SNAP
Each state has its own application form, available in the list below. Some states, such as Alaska and Hawaii have have higher gross and net income limits, but the majority of states follow the regulations created by the USDA Food and Nutrition Services. Federal eligibility limits can be found here.
TANF
To qualify for this program, the applicant must either be pregnant or responsible for a child under the age of 19. Benefits are determined by state, so you will need to check with your local office to see if you are eligible. For more information, find your state here.
WIC
Due to USDA guidelines, WIC enrollment cannot be done online. In most cases, you will need to set up an appointment with your local WIC office. They will determine if you are eligible for the program and get you started as soon as possible.
Once you have been approved, your SNAP, TANF, or other federal food assistance benefits can be tracked on your state’s Electronic Benefit Transfer website.

SNAP
The SNAP Program in Alabama is administered through the Food Assistance Program.
To fill out an application online, visit https://mydhr.alabama.gov, and create an account. On this page, you will also find a printable version of the application that can be printed out at home or at a local school or library. This can be faxed, mailed, or delivered in person to your county’s DHR office.

Alaska
SNAP
The SNAP Program in Alaska is administered through the Food Stamp Program. Eligible applicants must pass income and asset tests. The applicant’s gross monthly income test is based on 130% of the current Alaska poverty standard. Due to the number of rural communities in Alaska, higher SNAP benefits are available in many communities and benefits may be used to purchase certain hunting and fishing gear.

Arizona SNAP is administered through the State Food and Nutrition Services. To apply for aid, fill out an online application through Health-e-Arizona Plus.
