Food Insecurity is a human rights epidemic.

Food Insecurity is a human rights epidemic affecting millions of people around the world. In addition to hunger, people living in Food Insecure households experience adverse physical conditions (i.e. poor nutrition, greater hospitalization rates, increased risk of obesity and diabetes), mental setbacks (i.e. higher instances of depression and anxiety), cognitive issues (i.e. trouble focusing, overall lower academic performance), and emotional effects (i.e. increased aggression, and other behavioral problems) at a greater rate than people living in Food Secure households. The pernicious effects of Food Insecurity on children are particularly troublesome, as their minds and bodies are still in the process of rapid development.

Our goal is to add value to the ongoing discussions about Food Insecurity.

There are myriad people and institutions studying and discussing this issue, its causes, and its effects. We want to add our voices to that discussion and highlight those who have been fighting to secure this most basic human right for the most vulnerable among us.

A Conversation For Six.

Noted food writer MFK Fisher once wrote that the perfect dinner can be achieved (regardless of the food) with six people. She reasoned that “[u]sually six people act as whets, or goads, in this byplay and make the whole [dining experience] more casual, if, perhaps, less significant.” This is exactly what we want - not to start a discussion so serious and technical that only those who are extremely well versed in the issues can participate (though such discussions are critically important in their own right), but a more casual conversation ripe for participation by any person irrespective of their familiarity with the topic. We want to facilitate a conversation for six, and we hope that you will join us.
